Perspective Grid 101!
I’ve had a few people ask me about perspective, so I figured it was time I just did one of these tutorials and did a step by step.
I hope it makes sense to people!
A couple of notes on this -
1. There are a number of different ways to make grids. This is what I do, and it works for me. I have found this to personally be the easiest method, however if something else works better for you, use it!
2. This tutorial is designed for people who work traditionally. If you do your drawing in photoshop or manga studio, there are many quicker and more effective ways to make grids. I do all of my drawing on paper, and so this method is very useful for me.
3. Despite the appearance, this is actually really fast once you get the hang of it. Yes, it’s still faster in photoshop, but I can easily make a good grid on my page in less that 5 minutes, often under 2. The more you practice and understand the basic concept, you’ll figure out ways other ways to use it, and it will become like second nature. When I first started it often took me 20 minutes or more.
4. Feel free to share this, if you want to use it elsewhere, ask me first! If I can help people make better comics, I’m all for it!

Hey all followers!
As you may have noticed, Tumblr hasn’t been a primary venue for me to share my work.
This is going to change.
The sharing features that Tumblr allows are very useful, and I think will be a good method for me to get my work out there.
One of the biggest parts of Tumblr is the reblogging feature, but I feel it also presents a difficulty in that if you aren’t careful, your own work and that of other bloggers and creators can get mixed up.
Because of this, I have created an official Eryk Donovan Reblog Tumblr!
http://erykd.tumblr.com/
All of my reblogging will now take place here! I’ve reblogged everything from my archive, and than removed anything that did not directly pertain to me from this tumblr, so as to maintain some clarity.
From here on out, reblogs on the other, and just my stuff up on here!
Thanks all!
I made myself a a pocket brush out of a Winsor Newton Series 7 and Pentel Pocket brush.
I wanted something smaller, with a thicker grip than most brushes have, without having to sacrifice the quality of the brush tip.
The balance of it is definitely different than using the full size brush or a pocket brush, but so far I’m pleased!
All right bros, here’s the deal. Playlist, a musical comic anthology has just NINE DAYS left and a long ways to go before it’s funded. So, starting today, every day until the kickstarter is over, I’m giving you a piece of music fanart.
Here are the artists I’m thinking of doing fanart for….
Please please please support our kickstarter! We are doing an anthology using song lyrics as the text/dialogue for our comics! We’ve got about a week left to do it. Check us out here…
Jebas friends, look at all of this amazing stuff! This project still needs a lot of help getting to its goal, so pass this on, reblog it or paint it on a building or something, because the world will be a darker place without this thing!
Did I ever mention Playlist anthology!? Like, the COOLEST Music/comic anthology EVER!?
Seriously! Different musical styles coupled with different art styles! This is gonna be awesome!
PLAYLIST Kickstarter is up and running!!!
This comic anthology (featuring yours truly <3) is going to be 200 pages of AMAZING COMIC ART- with a twist. The text is these comics entirely from song lyrics! Each comic is based off one song, and uses the lyrics as the text base. It is fun, challenging project, and I’m working with a bunch of awesomely talented artists. I’ve seen some of the progress on these stories, trust me- you’re going to want a copy. So check it out, and check back for progress shots of my own story, based off Tunng’s Bullet. (It’s about mutans soldier. Lots of epic fight scenes!).
Love you all, my sweets! <3
Woot!
